How can I sponsor a child to come to camp? What benefits are there to sending a child to Theatre LYTE?
Sponsoring a child to come to a Theatre LYTE summer camp is a great way to contribute to the theatre community and the larger community in London, Ontario.
Some of the benefits to the child of attending Theatre LYTE summer camp include improved confidence, gaining acting and public speaking skills, making new friends and experiencing a taste of theatre life.
Some of the benefits you may enjoy from sponsoring a child to come to LYTE camp include a feeling of pride and satisfaction, a charitable tax receipt that you may use for income tax purposes, updates on the camp and a formal thank you letter from our camp directors. A business that makes a donation of $50 will have an ad placed in our program, and for a donation over $100 businesses will receive thanks in all programs and on posters in the lobby, as well as on our website and through social media.
I’m interested in donating materials, supplies or equipment to LYTE at the Palace. How would I go about this and what sort of recognition is available?
LYTE is always looking for donations of props, material for costumes, basic art supplies and healthy snacks, water and juice boxes to successfully run our camp and deliver a high quality program. If you are interested in donating items please contact The Palace Theatre by phone at 519-432-1029 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. For your donation you will receive a thank you in our program, on our website and through social media. (Unless you would prefer to remain anonymous.)
Tell me more about Theatre LYTE. I want to know exactly what my money is going to.
Part of London Community Player’s mandate is to provide a training ground for drama and theatre personnel and to develop and promote the application of drama and theatre in education. It was in this spirit that LCP began their Youth Theatre Program 10 years ago. The board and staff at the time recognized a great need in the community to provide young people with a safe, affordable place where they could pursue their interest in theatre, when they would not otherwise have the opportunity due to expense or lack of availability. Through generous community support, a vision was born.
The program began humbly enough as a two week summer camp where around 30 kids were brought together at the Palace theatre and tasked with rehearsing and performing an original script in two weeks. In 2007 the program got its own Board Director and hence sustained leadership, consistent board oversight and a LYTE committee dedicated to the promotion and growth of the program. Many changes have occurred since then.
In 2011 LYTE grew to a full year arts program including summer camp, fall classes and small productions from individual classes. In 2012, LYTE decided to create a full Fall & Winter program that would culminate in a main stage performance of Harry’s Hotter at Twilight. Over 60 young people applied to be part of the program and the show was presented to over 900 patrons in March of 2013. As a result of this success LYTE was asked to include a mini LYTE program for little ones aged 5-7 over the summer break and to build a program that could include children from 5 and up.
From humble beginnings, LYTE now flows from summer, fall to winter, provides 7 arts jobs a year in the local community and helps over 180 kids a year explore confidence and self expression in a safe and fun environment. In a program like LYTE the experiences are unforgettable and the impact immeasurable in the lives of the students, playwrights, volunteers and employees that take part.
At Theatre LYTE, we believe strongly that the summer camp experience leaves a lasting impact on every child. Our goal is for each child to benefit from higher self-esteem, greater self-confidence and newly developed friendships. Contributions of any amount to Theatre LYTE are greatly appreciated by the children and families who benefit from them. All donations go directly towards providing children with a fabulous summer camp experience.
